MIDI Adaptor Kit

  • A MIDI adaptor box which is plugged directly onto the Cordovox accordion. No changes
    are necessary to the accordion connectors.
  • A special MIDI cable which also has 2 extra wires for providing power to the adaptor box.

The mains plug-pack — NOT SUPPLIED — shown for reference only since connections and mains voltages vary between different parts of the world. The MIDI adaptor requires power from between 8 volts and 15 volts DC.

MIDI Adaptor Specifications

  • Standard accordion four channel general MIDI output:
    • Channels 1 and 4 – right hand side,
    • Channel 2 – left hand chords,
    • Channel 3 – left hand bass
  • Octave up of channel 1 using existing Cordovox front panel switch,
  • One cable connection for both power and MIDI
  • Alternative power input socket for when a standard MIDI cable is used.
  • Power ON LED indicator
  • Low power consumption, typical 7mA.

MIDI Adaptor Operation Description

The MIDI adaptor makes use of the existing Cordovox spring contacts to sense when a
key or button is depressed. A microprocessor together with CMOS SMD integrated
circuits are used for converting the switch data into the MIDI format offering reliability,
small size and lightweight. The possibility of false key or button readings is reduced
using a combination of circuit and software program strategies.
The power input can be either through the special MIDI cable or by a separate power
input socket located beneath the MIDI adaptor box in which case a standard MIDI cable
can be used.

MIDI Adaptor Fitment

  • Plug the single end of the special MIDI cable into the MIDI adaptor,
  • Plug the MIDI adaptor firmly onto the accordion,
  • At the double end of the MIDI cable, plug the MIDI cable connector into the MIDI IN of the
    sound generator or module,
  • Plug the power pack output into the power connection of the special MIDI cable,
  • Plug the power pack into the voltage mains and power ON.
  • The adaptor is now ready for use.
